It's an emotive issue but one that needs to be grasped. There are undoubted benefits by forming an all Island club (cost savings to mention one) but also possible losses (the diminishing or even loss of club names with a long history). It needs thought and discussion before deciding. There is a thread on the Road Clubs forum here to discuss the issues. Click here for an online vote. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 4th September *The start sheet for the Alex Forrest 2 up 10 mile Time Trial is here _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 31st August *Manx riders performed well at the British Youth/Junior Track Championships at Newport a couple of weeks ago. Ashley Whipp (MVW) flew the flag for the Wheelers while Cayley Ennett represented Ellan Vannin. Manx Road Club members also performed well during the week with Peter Kennaugh (junior!) breaking the British Youth Pursuit record. Chris Whorrall (MRC) was third in the under 14 omnium event with James Berry of Team Scottish Provident IOM finishing top under 13 rider in 5th place overall in the same event. Mark Christian (TSP IOM) and Tim Kennaugh (MRC) rounded off a fine week for manx riders by acquitting themselves with good rides in their respective events.
*Ian Mudie is looking toward the joys of winter training and was wondering whether you know of any spinning classes or whether any of the guys get together for turbo sessions etc. He also wants to know if there's anyone that could help him put together a training program for the winter. If anyone can help him out please mail the wheelers at mvw@manx.net
*On Sunday, August 28, 2005, three Manx based riders competed in the Irish TT Champs held just south of Carlow Town in Southern Ireland. Andrew Roche (Team Rochelle) lead the way with an excellent second place in the Men's Elite event, with 45 riders over 40km, in a time of 52 mins and 2 secs. He was beaten to the title of Irish Champion by David McCann with a time of 50:13. The course was on the main Carlow to Kilkenny road. The first half of the course was into the teeth of a strong headwind (memories of riding towards The Cronk on a windy Wednesday night, but for a lot longer) which, thankfully the wind pushed the riders all the way home. Claire Moore (MVW) rode in the Elite Woman's 30km Time Trial over part of the same course. Unfortunately for the women, they had to ride 20km into the headwind and only had the benefit of the tail wind for just 10km. Claire completed the course in a time of 50:22 and secured fifth place out of 11 competitors. The winning time was 48:07. Peter O'Shea (MVW) rode in the 40km Vet Men's event in a time of 62:50, taking tenth position out of 19 riders. The leading vets time was 54:46 and only three vets completed the course in under the hour.

*A team of four under the banner of Team Isle of Man took part in the Newry 3 Day Stage race in Ireland last weekend. Tristen Gell, Gianni Epifani, Aaron Livesey and Mike Doyle put in some good performances. Stage 1 took place in heavy rain on pan flat 40 mile circuit, the peleton stayed together and a bunch sprint saw Mike Doyle gain a strong top 10 position, the rest of the local riders finished safely in the bunch. Stage 2 covered 62 miles over a more undulating course, after half way a small group escaped from the main bunch, unfortunately none of the Isle of Man riders were in the break, although there was a concerted effort towards the end of the stage from the main bunch the escapes had a over one minute at the end of the stage. Stage 3 – Tristen Gell took full advantage of having his time trial bike by taking 5th position on the stage and moving up to 14th position on overall GC. After good time trials Gianni Epifani and Aaron Livesey moved up into the top 30 and 40 on the GC respectively. Stage 4 – The longest and hardest stage of the event over 70 miles, the main bunch was very active during the early part of the stage, after 10 miles a small break escaped that included Mike Doyle, at one stage they had a 2 minute lead, however, after a brave attempt the escapes, they were caught with 10 miles remaining. Once again the final stage came down to a bunch sprint and after avoiding a heavy crash in the final 1km Aaron Livesey produced a fine top 10 position in the sprint, the rest of the local riders arrived safely in the bunch. In the team classification was made up of 18 teams, the Isle of Man finished a creditable 6th. Tristen Gell finished top local on the GC in 14th, Gianni Epifani 28th, Aaron Livesey 38th and Mike Doyle 48th. 100 riders completed the race 122 riders started. *The result from last weeks (27th July) 10's League is here _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

At the other end of the age group, Tom Black (TSP IOM) also deserves a round of applause for being the only juvenile rider to tackle the course (in a time that would put me to shame). _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 24th June *Week 8 results for the 10's league are here The timekeepers had a very difficult job so please be understanding. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 23rd June *The MVW organised Penrice Trophy 25 Mile Time Trial attracted a field of 23 riders and the results are here

*Excellent weather stayed for the 3 up Time Trial to provide some fast times (to follow). Fastest of the night were the Wheelers team of Andrew Cook, Graeme Hatcher and Ashley Whipp while the unluckiest riders of the evening were Tom Black, James Berry and Sam Looker (TSP IOM) who were really flying until Sam punctured at St Judes. A wheel change got them going again and yours truly suffered the indignity of being passed twice by the same juvenile riders! Peter Gage had an unfortunate off in the car park (forgot to put his feet down when stopped?) but was unhurt. Peter O'Shea and son Colum put in particularly good rides.

Starting this Tuesday they will be running each Tuesday and Thursday (unless there is a Bikestyle on) and will leave the NSC gates at 6:15 and will use the back roads to get to St Johns and then will be running around the old Farmers arm’s course.
